2012 SFWPC Committees
About SFWPC | Previous Committees
Want to get involved? Join a committee!
In addition to attending great networking events, staying current on women’s issues in San Francisco and participating in the endorsement process, members are encouraged to join Committees. Each committee generally meets once a month for two to three hours. Any female SFWPC member can join a Committee.
Policy Committee:
In recent years, members of this committee have created a unique piece of legislation that seek to boost women’s participation in local government, conducted panels on the crisis of human trafficking, and supported numerous bills related to SFWPC’s goals through letters, phone calls, and testimony before lawmakers. The policy committee also convened and maintains San Francisco’s Women’s Collaborative, composed representatives of the city’s many government and nonprofit agencies working with women’s issues. The committee works closely with this Collaborative throughout the year to produce the San Francisco Women’s Policy Summit. And there seems to be even more in the pipeline so we’re increasing the number of members on this committee. Check out what we’ve been working on at the website on the policy page. For more details and to submit your application, email SFWPC Policy Chair Kim Waltz at kim@sfwpc.org.
Programs Committee:
This year, the Programs Committee will put together a number of speaker events, happy hours, exclusive events with high-profile candidates, our annual Summer in the City and Women’s Holiday Party events, and many others. If you’re new to politics, this is a great way to get your feet wet and have fun. If you’re already in the game, this is an opportunity to put your stamp on SFWPC. As a Programs Committee member, you’ll have a lot of interaction with the membership, electeds, SFWPC Advisory Council and the SFWPC Board of Directors while enjoying a tasty cocktail or listening to an inspiring speech. For more details and to apply, email SFWPC Programs Chair Rosie Dilger at rosie@sfwpc.org.
Endorsements Committee:
The Endorsements Committee meets frequently around elections and handles the SFWPC’s ballot analysis. Members create guidelines for the endorsement process, research ballot measures, engage candidates and measure representatives interviews. We then present the official endorsement recommendations to SFWPC’s voting membership. Endorsement Committee members also support the Board and other committees in conducting membership endorsements votes and producing and distributing the organization’s slate cards. Knowledge of the local and statewide legislature and an understanding of San Francisco’s political climate are a big plus for this committee, but we also seek to mentor women who are new to our tempestuous climate. For more details and to apply, email SFWPC Endorsement Chair Kay Vasilyeva at kay@sfwpc.org.
