Issues
The San Francisco Women’s Political Committee (SFWPC) has a long history of advocating for policies and legislation that align with our long standing bottom line issues.
SFWPC Bottom Line Issues
Ø Appoint and elect women to public office and position of political leadership
Ø Safe, livable and green communities
Ø Livable wages and pay equity for equal work
Ø Accessible, quality health care, senior services, child care and early education
Ø Reproductive freedom
Ø Elimination of violence against women
Ø Eradication of all forms of discrimination against women and girls
Through the SFWPC Endorsement Program, candidates are required to adhere to all of the policy issues in order to be eligible for endorsement. In addition, SFWPC members are active advocates in the legislative process for items that align with these policies.
Working with our Sister Organizations–2nd Annual San Francisco Women’s Policy Summit
On Saturday, September 27, 2008 representatives from 75 women’s organizations and elected officials gathered together as the San Francisco Women’s Policy Summit 2008 for a thought provoking and inspiring day.
San Francisco has always been an international leader in the area of social policy and San Francisco women’s organizations realize the need to collaborate on local policy issues that are foundational in nature - infrastructure, housing and development, environmental resources, etc. Last year, the women’s political organizations and local elected officials gathered together to consider what policy areas we should be working on collectively.
We selected the following priorities:
1) electing and appointing more women to political office and positions of leadership
2) promoting policies that ensure the economic independence of women and their families
3) making San Francisco schools the #1 choice for families
4) enhancing the ability of the Department on the Status of Women to support these objectives
The 2nd Annual San Francisco Women’s Policy Summit was honored to have Dr. Riane Eisler as our keynote speaker this year. Other speakers included Christine Pelosi, author of Campaign Boot Camp, and State Senator Carole Migden. ”Women’s Issues” are no longer disconnected from daily government policy. Our desire for a better community and a better world can begin with partnership discussions at a local level.
