In this economy jobs are tough to come by, but have no fear, the sisterhood is here to help. One of the main goals of SFWPC is Economic Independence and that’s kinda hard when you don’t have a job. So we’re connecting the dots between cool girls and cool jobs here with some great opportunities passed along by your fellow SFWPC girls. Remember, when we support each other, we are better for it.
The following opportunities are highlighted:
- Vacancies available on San Francisco Commissions, Boards, and Task Forces
- California State Auditor now accepting applications for the new Citizens Redistricting Commission
- Volunteers for the Janet Reilly for District 2 Supervisor campaign
San Francisco Wants You to Get Involved!
Today, Mayor Lee announced the launch of a centralized online database of City boards and commissions including vacancies and appointments to advisory bodies for the City and County of San Francisco. To search this great new resource, go to www.sfgov.org/commissionsdatabase or call 3-1-1. It’s an important goal of the past Women’s Policy Summits to add to the number of women in the San Francisco government “pipeline” and searching this site is an exciting new tool.
Sit on a Board, Commission, or Task Force
Calling all women leaders! There are many opportunities to serve the community while obtaining valuable experience in city government. If you have a particular interest, there is a Commission Vacancy for you! Take a look at the information at this site: http://www.sfbos.org/index.aspx?page=3045. The process is described and an application is available for you to download. If you are interested, email Benj Jurcisin at benj@sfwpc.org and she’ll help get the process underway. It’s an important goal of the past Women’s Policy Summits to add to the number of women in the San Francisco government “pipeline” and serving on commissions is a great way to start. And if you don’t, Benj will come after you anyway… so let’s get those resumes going
California State Auditor now accepting applications for the new Citizens Redistricting Commission

One year ago, Californians voted to fundamentally change the way electoral district boundaries are drawn in the state by transferring control over this activity from the Legislature to an independent commission made up of California voters. Starting today – December 15 – you can apply for a seat on the Citizens Redistricting Commission. If you think you might be interested in serving, or if you know anyone else who you think would be a good candidate, this is the time to throw your hat in the ring.
The application process for the Commission is short: initial applications must be submitted by February 12, 2010. California Forward urges you to get involved in this once-in-a-decade opportunity to help map California’s political future. The State Auditor is looking for people who have common sense, a genuine interest in this work and in working with others toward a common goal, and the ability to commit some significant time to this effort for several months in 2011. This is a rare opportunity and very important work. We hope you will consider it.
For more information on how to apply, and on the Citizens Redistricting Commission in general, go to www.WeDrawTheLines.ca.gov. Applications will be accepted online between December 15 and February 12, 2010. To learn about other California Forward issues, please visit www.caforward.org.
